Crochet thread: J. & P. Coats Speed-Cro-Sheen (100-yd ball size 3 mercerized cotton), 3 balls Spanish Red, Vanilla or Navy

Crochet hook: size E (3.50 mm); yarn needle 

Beaded Bag: 46 faceted 10 mm beads (The Beadery #711, Crystal 006) 

GAUGE: 21 sts = 4" 

Button bag: 26 assorted silver buttons 

BASIC BAG (see Beaded Bag-> BEADED BAG: FLOWER:

Rnd 1 (right side): Ch 42; 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 39 ch, 4 sc in last ch; on other edge of ch, sc in next 39 ch, 2 sc in last ch; sl st in first sc (86 sc).

Work all rnds from right side. Mark beg of rnds

Rnd 2: Sc in each sc. Repeat

Rnd 2 until 6" from beg; end last rnd sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Slip 46 beads onto yarn.

Unroll a few yards of yarn and slide beads toward ball. Work 4 rnds as for basic bag.

Rnd 5: On next 43 sts (bag front), work 3 sc, slide bead close to last st made and sc in next sc to attach bead; work (5 sc, attach bead in next sc) 6 times, 3 sc; sc 43 across back. Work 3 rnds sc.

Note; To dec I sc, draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and through all 3 lps on hook. To join 2 dtr (double treble crochet), *yo 3 times, draw up alp in sc, (yo and through 2 lps on hook) 3 times; repeat from * once; yo and through all 3 lps on hook (joined dtr made). Ch 4; sl st in first ch to join ring

HANDLE (make 2): Row 1: Ch 9. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (8 sc). Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 13". Fasten off. Sew or sl st long edges tog, leaving 4 rows free at each end.

 

Rnd 9: On front work 6 sc, attach bead in next sc, (5 sc, attach bead in next sc) 5 times, 6 sc; sc across back. Repeat Rnds 2 through 9 twice more, then Rnds 2 through 5 once. Work 4 rnds sc. Fasten off.  

FINISHING: Spread ends of handle flat and sew to front 1 ¼” from sides and 1 " below lop. Repeat on back. Flower and Button Bags: With crochet thread, sew flower (right) centered 1 ½” below lop of bag or sew buttons at random to front.

 

Rnd 1 (right side): Ch 1; 12 sc in ring; join in first sc. Work rnds from right side. Rnds 2 and 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc; join (12 sc). Rnd 4: Ch 1, (dec 1 sc) 6 times; join (6 sc). Rnd 5: Ch 1,2 sc in each ch l2 sc). Rnd 6: *Sl st in next sc, ch 5 work 2 joined dtr in same sc, ch 5, sl st in same sc (petal made); repeat from * around (12 petals); join. Fasten off.
